Import of goods

Goods entering the EU customs territory from a non-EU country, are subject to number of custom rules. The main rule is that these goods must receive a "customs destination". You can give the goods a customs destination by, for example, placing them under a "customs procedure".

The following customs procedures apply:

  • release for free circulation
  • active distribution
  • passive distribution
  • temporary entry
  • processing under customs control
Feel free to ask us which arrangement your goods fall under, and which import duties and conditions apply.

Customs formalities and export documents
There are various government agencies in the Netherlands that are involved in import and export. Among them, customs occupy the most prominent place. Although customs hardly plays a role with regard to trade within the EU, customs is still fully present in trade with third countries (= non-EU countries).
